Saturday the 5th of September marked Centric’s expansion into West London. The team attended the W12 Festival based in Wormholt park to speak to local residents and community organisations.
Here’s a quote from Elaine Brown, a member of the team attending on the day:
“Perhaps not as busy as wished but, overflowing with a range of chilled, interesting people intentionally looking at the stalls set out. We Centric folk were kept busy most of the day meeting, chatting, learning, sharing and exchanging new (and old) issues in the area and signing up potential new residents who want to make a difference and improve their dialogue with the local authority, who we feel, need to better understand and take grassroots accounts of residents to heart. Such diversity!
"We aim to help get these voices, concerns, (and) issues, heard, understood, (and) acted upon more holistically, honestly, sustainably - for the long term. That's the future.”
Both residents and organisations alike expressed their positive views on our approach, with a few stating "this is what we need here!". Personally, it is great to move into a new area and connect with many like-minded individuals who welcome us with open arms and are excited by the prospect of working with us. We are really looking forward to working with residents and training them to work with, and empower, their own communities.
Every year I spend with Centric, there are new people and new opportunities. Reflecting upon the year we have had already, and the impact we have had on the residents of Lambeth and Southwark, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2023.
